World Management Competition Won by the Russian Team

27.04.2015

The world elite of company management knows its winning representatives. The winner of the final of the international student competition - Global Management Challenge (GMC), which took place on Thursday, April 23rd, is the Russian team.

„The teams that qualified for the final were indeed equally strong and we had to wait for the results till the very last moment. Nevertheless, I am sure that the winning team rightfully deserves the award for fighting hard,“ says Petr Budinský, Vice-rector of the University of Finance and Administration (VŠFS) which organized the competition in the Czech Republic.

The competitive teams went through a few strenuous days. The very international final started last Tuesday, with drawing four basic groups. These groups competed for qualification for the final on Wednesday; each group produced two finalists. „Unfortunately, the Czech team did not qualify for the final but because we want to sustain the tradition of the competition in the Czech Republic and to offer Czech university students a chance to compare themselves with other teams in the international competition, we intend to organize the competition next year again. Possibilities are therefore open,“ comments VŠFS Rector Bohuslava Šenkýřová on the course of the competition.

Today has stood for the international final itself; with eight best teams competing from all over the world. During the past days, we saw a number of meetings and dinner parties, offering opportunities to discuss possible cooperation between universities and big companies that showed enormous interest in the competition since the placings in the competition may help big corporations realize where they should search for future elite of their management.

„We count on our students and graduates and we wish to cooperate with them in the long term. They are our inspiration as well as our future co-workers and colleagues. As part of GMC, we have a chance to meet talented young people who may use the opportunities that we offer to our students and graduates,“ explains Zita Václavíková, Manager of HR J&T Bank, why the bank decided to be the general partner of the competition.

A similar approach has been adopted by Škoda AUTO, which is also GMC´s general partner. It has already prepared a number of programs for the students and graduates and there is even a university bearing its name.

„Winning, motivating and maintaining young talents, not only with technical education, is crucial for ŠKODA AUTO. Therefore we also cooperate with universities and promote student competitions. Students and graduates are provided with stable base of a big international company, possibilities of personal development, work opportunities abroad, above-standard salaries and plenty of benefits. An ideal opportunity to start one´s career is to attend ŠKODA Trainee program which is intended for the graduates of Czech and foreign universities,“ says Jan Frydrych – Chief of Recruitment and HR Marketing in Škoda Auto.

The goal of the competition is to discover the best future managers among the students. Its tradition goes back to late 70´s in Portugal and since then the competition has regularly taken place in various countries of the world. Each competing team is in charge of a model business organization and operates with it on virtual EU, NAFTA markets and on the internet with the objective to achieve the top capital appreciation and the best market status based on those achieved profits. This criterion specifies the winning company on the market, i.e. the winning team of the competition.
