30.03.2015

It is the third time in the national edition of the biggest managerial skills competition Global Management Challenge that we saw the winning student team “Second place is for losers”, made up of Jan Kvarda (Masaryk University), Tomáš Petrák (Carnegie Mellon University), Samuel Říha (Charles University) and Mojmír Vinkler (Masaryk University). „We strongly feel that we could be placed among the top three – Russia, the Ukraine and China which are the strongest in the competition“, says Jan Kvarda of the winning team. This year for the first time in its history, the final of the competition will take place in Prague from 21st to 23rd April. The organizer of the national edition and the international final is the University of Finance and Administration.

The patron of the winning team is general partner of the competition J&T Banka. The competition results were announced during a festive Gala Evening at the Brožík Hall at the Old Town Hall on Tuesday, 24th March 2015. This venue was generously provided by Prague City Council which also sponsored the competition along with the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports.

This year (4th) organized by VŠFS in the Czech Republic was attended by 53 teams from more than 10 universities from the whole of the Czech Republic. The competitors had passed two rounds, whereas the 8 best ones proceeded to the national final. The criterion for winning in the national final was reaching the top capital appreciation. The main prize represents a free-of-charge MBA study program of City University of Seattle at the University of Finance and Administration.

This year, general partners of the competition are J&T Banka, a.s., and Škoda Auto, a.s.; there are also other exclusive partners of the competition such as ČSOB, Deloitte, GALARD or Apogeo.

Competition Global Management Challenge tests theoretical and practical managerial skills of students and at the same time it teaches them to bear the consequences of their decisions. They take responsibility for the virtual company they run in order to find out later whether it is going to succeed at selected markets. One of the strong points of this competition is students´ cooperation with prestigious firms. They get involved in the project as partners as well as patrons supporting their teams. Companies provide the competitors with expert assistance and let them in on the principles of company management; the decisions, however, have to be taken by the students themselves.
