On June 6, 2013 there was the IV. Investment forum held at the Congress Center of VŠFS. The main aim of this forum was to analyze the development of capital, currency and commodities markets in the second half of this year - alternatively to get some tips for investing and how to divide your financial portfolio. This issue attracted more than 100 participants.
The conference was broken into four moderated discussion blocks in which top economists and investment specialists discussed the given issues. The individual blocks were called: „What is the thinking of central banks?“, „Commodities: What can cause the growth of commodities?“, „The best investments for the second half of 2013“ and „Alternative investments: A little bit different investing“.
The forum was opened by the prorector of VŠFS Petr Budinský. Roman Chlupatý then took over the address and took turns with Petr Novotný in moderating individual blocks.
In the first block Petr Budinský and Petr Zahradník discussed the issues concerned. Both of them agreed with the following points:
- Compared to the rest of the developed world, Europe is in the worst situation.
- Currently, there is no immediate danger of „ a collapse“
- It will take a few years before the economy is revived.
When evaluating central banks, Petr Budinský noted that the FED has been doing quite well at solving the crisis in the USA. In contrast, the ECB started taking „right“ steps only after Mario Draghy was appointed the ECB president. Petr Zahradník positively rated the way the ČNB acted. He also stated that these days central banks influence the situation through the financial markets.
Regarding the development trends for 2014, Mr. Zahradník stated that the Czech Republic will only be doing better because currently the situation cannot be worse. Petr Budinský thinks that the development in the Czech Republic will be in step with that of the European Union.
Petr Budinský also invited all the participants to a conference „Perspectives of the European Economy“ which will be held on November 22, 2013 at Plodinova stock exchange, in the ČNB building in Prague. Prof. Václav Klaus will be the main participant at this conference.
