The Chess Tournament 2013

On March 22, 2013 at 10 o’clock there was the third annual Chess Tournament held in Vysoká škola finanční a správní, which is organized once a year by VŠFS and Pražská šachová společnost (Prague Chess Company). There was a great interest in this tournament even this year.

The tournament was opened by the welcoming speech of Mr. Pavel Machota, the Chairman of Pražská šachová společnost. The address was then passed to Mr. Petr Budinský, the Prorector, who apart from other things, mentioned a wide spectrum of activities which can be taken up in our university. Amongst other topics we can mention the theory of games. Petr Budinský also thanked the partners of the tournament – Czech Computer s.r.o., which donated prizes, and to Pražská šachová společnost. The final speech was held by Petr Jerejk, the judge, who presented the rules and system of the game and expressed his delight over the high participation. The games were full of thrills and reversals. There was a record number of 23 teams from 22 secondary schools.

Gymnázium Kladno, namely Jakub Haman, Adam Čáp, Michal Černý and Martin Vytáček, became winners of the whole tournament after seven games. Second place was won by Gymnázium Kroměříž, represented by Martin Stachoň, Jan Palášek, Marek Navrátil and Jan Ryšavý. Gymnázium Nový Bydžov ranked the third, represented by Martin Šedivý, Martin Kohout, Vojtěch Vaníček and Matouš Pražák. The standing of individual chessboards is as follows: Jan Ryšavý from Gymnázium Kroměříž who obtained 7 points out of seven, then Marek Navrátil also from Gymnázium Kroměříž with his 6.5 points out of 7, followed by Adam Čáp from Gymnázium Kladno with 6 points and Jan Petr from Gymnázium Jana Keplera with 6.5 points out of 7. Congratulations to all winners and we are looking forward to see you all in the next annual tournament.
