Exceptional success. The University of Finance and Administration obtained accreditation of the MPA programme.

21.06.2012

The University of Finance and Administration thus joined the other two universities of the Czech Republic which provide this type of education adapted to the conditions and needs of the public administration. It is the only university which underwent the validation process at the prestigeous London South Bank University (LSBU). The learning programme Master of Public Administration (MPA) will be taught in English and our university will start offering it since the academic year 2012/2013.

Our university had excellent results in the validation process which was closed without any reservations and further conditions from the assessing institution. In this connection, Holly Nicholas, Director of LSBU's Academic Quality Development Office stated that within the validation of roughly 50 universities carried out by LSBU, this had happened for the first time.

The MPA study programme is provided mainly for managers in the public administration and for those who have aspirations to leading posts, further for members of local councils and self-governing territorial units, for managers of other organizations of the public sector (non-profit-making organizations, universities, hospitals, cultural institutions, police, army, etc.) and also for those lawyers working in the area of the state administration. The degree MPA is an equivalent of the MBA degree in the area of public administration.

The MPA programme is a two-year programme taught in English and it consists of five compulsory modules:

  • Leadership, Governance and Public Management
  • Managing through Critical Enquiry and Research
  • Public Policy and the Managerial Environment
  • Integrative Management and Change
  • Contemporary Issues for Public Managers

There are two elective modules which complete the compulsory ones. So far the following two are taken into consideration:

  • Managing within a Regulatory
  • Policymaking in Action

The study programme is closed with a dissertaion. In the acadamic year 2012/2013, this programme will be also offered to our students of the follow-up master's study programme of Public Administration, who will have a chance to take this MPA degree within an advantageous Double Degree study programme.
