In September of this year, the High School of Finance and Administration (VSFS) was granted accreditation in the teaching of sociology in the form of daily and combined studies. Sociology is going to be a standard subject of study in a newly established department of sociology at the Faculty of Social Studies. It will be lead by prof. PhDr. Petr Matějů, Ph.D. who was the chairman of the Grants Agency of the Czech Republic until July 2011 and who is one of the foremost Czech specialists in sociology.
This subject concentrates on the general sociological theories, main field sociological disciplines and on the methods of planning and implementing sociological research. In addition it also includes lectures on relative social science, e.g. basics of philosophy, economy, politics and objectively relevant disciplines like demography and social statistics. Gaining new competencies that are necessary in order to make research projects and implement them, or to make professional analyses and do their interpretation for various social phenomena and fields, is an inseparable part of teaching.This subject has a great potential for enabling graduates to find work in their chosen field - it improves the opportunities of getting an interesting job not only in administration and cultural institutions, but also in media, in a human resources department, in a business sphere and when managing institutions or when making social analyses and solving problems.
